Hammerin Hank. Where does this nickname come from? What does it mean? Why is he here? All questions that baffled the magnUM 2008 selection crew. The answers to these questions have never been revealed; until now.
You may think the “Hammer” that the nickname refers to is the legendary overhead upside down throw of ultimate, but you would be wrong. The origins of the nickname date back thousands of years. The 5th oldest illegitimate child of the Norse God of Thunder, Thor (making him the illegitimate grandson of Odin) Hank displayed immense dexterity with a hammer at a very early age. However, as an illegitimate God-child he quickly became an outcast among the gods. It didn’t matter, because he was tired of Norse God politics. Certa 950 AD he decided to hitch a ride with explorer Eric the Red and cofounded the island of Greenland. As a further rebellion against his origins he helped Leif Ericsson found Christianity, which forced Eric the Red to banish him from Greenland.
Now, tired and broken from 2 cultural rejections, Hammerin’ Hank relocated to the back woods of Michigan, changed his name to Henry Tyler, and made friends with the wolverines who populated the area. 1007 years after his exodus from Greenland Henry Tyler decided to try his hand in the college Ultimate scene. His Godlike genes and wolverine-like intensity proved to be a huge asset. Expect to see Hank hammering opponents on D and throwing his way to victories on the turns. There is no doubt that he will soon master this new hammer and destroy anything that stands in his path.
So you see, Hammerin’ Hank isn’t really a nickname after all…
