Team 25 Recap

After a program-best finish at Fall 2021 Nationals, MagnUM set their sights on another strong 2022 campaign. Led by captains, Ashwin Pothukuchi, Nicholas “Lucci” Colucci, and Theo Shapinsky, MagnUM began on a strong note with a 3rd place finish at Queen City Tune-Up, losing to Georgia 13-12 in the semi-finals. Later in March, MagnUM battled to a 2nd place finish against Northeastern at Missouri Loves Company in Colombia, MO. Michigan rounded out non-series play at Easterns. With a small roster and several injuries, MagnUM went down to the defending national champions, UNC, in the quarterfinals.

At a wet and windy Sectionals, Michigan set out to claim the conference championship. Despite sloppy play, MagnUM wrapped up the division within one day of play. During Regionals, MagnUM cruised to a Regional title, beating Indiana 15-7.

Entering Nationals with high expectations, MagnUM began with a strong performance against UConn, beating the Huskies 15-6. However in the following game, Michigan failed to put together a complete performance and stop Brett Hulsmeyer. The 16-seed Auburn Aetos upset 9-seeded Michigan MagnUM, effectively removing Michigan from the bracket. Despite a decisive open-lines victory against Pitt, MagnUM fell out of contention. Against Utah State, MagnUM started out hapless against an energized opponent, and Michigan’s second-half surge failed to close the gap, leaving MagnUM to place 14th at Nationals.
